Accessibility Statement
Introduction
This website is run by Central South Consortium. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text

- Pre-recorded videos may not contain captions
- Live video streams do not have captions
- Some of our pages (i.e., playlists) are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Central South Consortium is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some of our playlists have incorrect heading structures. Headings communicate the organisation of the content on the page. Assistive technologies use them to provide in-page navigation. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (level A) and criterion 2.4.6 (level AA).
- Some of our playlists do not feature clear visual cues showing which item is in focus. Users who are reliant on a keyboard to navigate a website use the tab key to cycle through the links on a page. A visual cue is required to highlight which link is currently in focus. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7 (level AA).
- Our playlists contain a number of embedded videos which do not currently feature a text alternative or audio descriptions. Transcripts or subtitles can be used to convey the information within the videos to hearing impaired users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.2.1, 1.2.2. and 1.2.3 (level A) and audio description success criterion 1.2.5 (level AA).
- The contrast on the playlist titles is not sufficient. A combination of text and background colour should be set to create an easy-to-read website. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3. (level AA).
Disproportionate burden
Some accessibility issues outlined above may be a disproportionate burden to fix.

Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Third party content
Where the site links out to third party content, this is clearly referenced as such and is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations that are within our control.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
It is our intention to continue to improve accessibility with regular internal and external audits.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared in May 2023 and was last updated at that time. With the aim of ensuring that the website is fully accessible by September 2025, we plan to test all webpages using the Lighthouse and Accessibility Checker accessibility tools.
